|  SEA PACT FACTS

Sea Pact will improve the sustainability of global seafood by using the collective power of like-minded North American seafood companies to improve fishing and fish farming systems globally.  Sea Pact was created by the six founding members: Albion Farms & Fisheries, Fortune Fish & Gourmet, Ipswich Shellfish Group, Santa Monica Seafood, Seacore Seafood and Seattle Fish Co. Sea Pact now consists of ten members.

Mission Statement

Sea Pact is a group of leading North American Seafood Companies dedicated to driving stewardship and continuous improvement of social, economic, and environmental responsibility throughout the global seafood supply chain.

We Agree as Sea Pact to Collectively:

1. Support a model of continuous improvement for fisheries and aquaculture farms.
2. Engage our peers and our supply chain in discussion and action around continuous improvement.
3. Publicly state our goals for reaching more responsible seafood supply and monitor and measure our progress towards our goal.
4. Support each other’s efforts to educate our individual staff, customers and supply chain about our responsible seafood initiatives.
5. Utilize our collective purchasing power in a pre-competitive nature to engage in improvement efforts.
6. Financially contribute to continuous improvement of those fisheries and fish farming systems we procure from that meet our Project Selection Criteria.
7. Consider the impact on communities when making sourcing decisions.
8. Engage in and support policy and management reform that leads to positive environmental outcomes in fisheries and aquaculture management.

Our Work:

Since its inception in 2013, Sea Pact’s primary approach to sustainability improvements has been conducted through an annual request for proposals and project funding process. As the organization has evolved, Sea Pact members have expressed interest in growing their collective impact beyond individual project funding to a more issue-based focus for transformational change.  As a result, Sea Pact members identified key strategic priority areas to focus their collaborative efforts on:
  1. Sector-based Sustainability Improvements
  2. Responsible Aquaculture Eduction & Advocacy
  3. Social Responsibility
  4. Sea Pact Project Funding
With the establishment of these strategic priorities, Sea Pact has now developed a publicly available work plan that outlines specific actions for the organization and its members to take in addressing these priority areas, while also ensuring a strong connection between Sea Pact funding projects and the strategic priorities.  Given this is the first work plan that the organization has produced, this work plan will serve as pilot covering October - December 2022.  Lessons learned from this pilot will inform future annual work plans which will align with the annual calendar year beginning in 2023.  Stakeholders can learn more about Sea Pact's strategic priorities and collective actions in the Sea Pact 2022 Quarter 4 Pilot Work Plan.
